I'm actually not vowed religious, but connected to some newer Episcopal lay monastic movements and thought to give a hello and learn more about what you do!

I sent this particular group up as a way to link to my actual group on yahoogroups which, I am sorry to say, has become an extraordinarily quiet group. But there is valuable info on the list's website.

I am no longer an Episcopal Solitary but am now a member of the Community of Solitude, so I am in the new monastic movement myself.

Hi Sister Aalfitano- nice to hear from you, and thanks for sharing the information; its sad when an active email list dies down, but wonderful to hear you have a new community now too. Do you have a website?

Ah, sorry, that wasn't clear; I start with last-names to be polite. :)

Wonderful- thank you.

Yes, nuns are always addressed by title then the name they take in religion.

Gotcha- hard to tell that from the internet sometimes.

Nice chatting... been pondering ways to try and make this place more active.  Preached on two of the founding saints of Anglican monasticism today, of all things. :)

Good for you.  Any way to read your sermon?

Well, thank you for asking- though I must say its not entirely something I could post in this case, brief and extemporaneous this time.  Wednesday mornings I've been doing short messages around the saints of the day in the Episcopal church's "Holy Women, Holy Men" cycle.  Richard Meux Benson, founder of the Society of St. John the Divine, and important anglo-catholic and social justice thinker Charles Gore were the closest to today, and I was able to share a little of my experience living near and visiting the SSJE's monastery in Cambridge, MA while in seminary.  My community, the Crossing had a number of friendships with them and the Episcopalian Sisters of St. Margaret who hosted us as we wrote our own Rule of Life as an intentional worshiping and serving community at the Cathedral.

We also had the joyous news of being able to move one of the dear friends of my school's Episcopal community, an Orthodox monk to a new home near one of our churches, where he'll be able to celebrate Mass each week.  He's a real treasure to us- part of a Western "Celtic" Orthodox order planted in the 1800's in Brittany where they still have a monastery.

Might post a few of my longer sermons at some point though, as I do them this year.  I'll let you know!
