"Hi Mark. A monk once explained to me that chastity is not abstinence or celibacy, but rather the virtue of well-ordered love; i.e. it's about being in right relationship, whether the relationship has a sexual component or not. Christians…"

12 New Marks of Monasticism

“The power to transform societies and to redeem the human condition  finds roots in the stored wisdom of the human past.” ~Thomas OdenSupremacy of the First Command :: Although we long for social justice and peace on Earth, we long for the One who is Justice Himself, and understand that there will be no ultimate peace until His Kingdom comes in fullness. The New Marks of Monasticism

[The following is an excerpt from Mark's latest re-monk.com post on the New Marks of Monasticism.  At the end of the article, you will find 12 New Marks of Monasticism - from a slightly different perspective]Although we are grateful for the pioneering literary works of Shane Claibourne and Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove on the “12 Marks of New Monasticism”, we do not feel that they are expressive of, or inclusive to the whole body of New Monastic believers and worship communities. Poustinia (Poo-steen-ya)

i took my eight-month old son into the woods with me to pray last weekend.  It was a cold morning and we were both bundled up in our winter gear.  Usually at this time of the morning he is extremely busy and a bit noisy exploring and discovering new things that have been left about the floor by our other children.  But as we hiked through the woods and up to the bluff that overlooks our little valley he was quiet.  Jed Asher seemed to be in awe of this new world that i was showing him.  We…See More

Hi Mark: thanks for the warm welcome.  I'm excited to get into the network and hope that it is a fruitful relationship for all involved.  Nashotah House is a great community and a great resource; and regrettably seems to me far too little utilized by new monastic / ancient-future types, partially by our own failure of initiative in networking.  Hopefully that will be rectified in the next few years!

May God richly bless your work and your ministry and all those whom you serve.  Please let me know if there is anything that I can do for you.

Your servant in Christ,

nathaniel
