What a Contrast!

The last few days have been an interesting contrast for me. On Thursday, December 6th, I spent the morning at a Food Pantry that was packed with people getting food, as did my room mate. After that I had a consult and spiritual healing time with a Tibetan Monk that was much needed due to Spiritual, Mental and physical exhaustion and illness. But, then that night, at the graciousness of friend paying for it, I went to an expensive liberal event/dinner at a resort. The contrast was stark! So…

Christmas Season Support needed for Poor Families

 Dear Friends and Supporters,

It is that time of year again. As I know as well as you know, the situation in our country currently is difficult to say the least, not to mention this time of year, but we must pull together and help any way. I am asking you to consider thoughtfully and prayerfully to help as well. We have many individuals and families in need for this Thanksgiving. 10 families, including 8 that are single parent families that we are working with…

Diligence

Many people struggle with diligence.  Forcing diligence causes the experience of life to become something terribly severe.  In this paradigm, there is diligence for perfection but no diligence for favorable expressivity.

One can satisfy all the requirements, not break any rules, and live up to each and every expectation but it will not result in true creative diligence.  The best diligence is a creative act and not so much a discipline.  All actions must have at their foundation a…

Just starting out!

We are a small community of lay and ordained Anglicans , we meet for the daily offices and are just on the cusp of formulating a rule of life based on Benedictine principles. We all live in Sutton in Ashfield and are worshippers at the Parish Church. If any one has experience of a dispersed local community we would be pleased to hear from you!

I have managed to write a Personal Rule of Life, based on Bishop Harold Miller's booklet "Finding a Personal Rule of Life", published by Grove Books Ltd (2003 edn.). I'm ging to try very hard to stick by it,but I won't beat myself up when I fail. Something that will really help me is the webcam of the Holy Cross Monastery, Rostrevor, whereby I can join them online for their Offices - Laud, None, Vespers, etc. Meanwhile, I'm exploring the possibility of becoming a Tertiary with the Anglican…

finds roots in the stored wisdom of the human past.”

The New Marks of Monasticism

[The following is an excerpt from Mark's latest re-monk.com post on the New Marks of Monasticism.  At the end of the article, you will find 12 New Marks of Monasticism - from a slightly different perspective]

Although we are grateful for the pioneering literary works of Shane Claibourne and Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove on the “12 Marks of New Monasticism”, we do not feel that they are expressive of, or inclusive to the whole body of New Monastic believers and worship communities. Some of…

Poustinia (Poo-steen-ya)

i took my eight-month old son into the woods with me to pray last weekend.  It was a cold morning and we were both bundled up in our winter gear.  Usually at this time of the morning he is extremely busy and a bit noisy exploring and discovering new things that have been left about the floor…

The Coming King of Offense

Friends, i pray you are well in the Lord.  This week, i felt impressed to include a message i preached about two years ago called "The Coming King of Offense."  i pray it will serve not only as a warning, but as a blessing of encouragement to those who have ears to hear.

Of Kings and Priests: Part Three

It was Oswald, King of Northumbria, who caught the spirit and the vision of God's Kingdom in the early 600's AD when he invited Aidan, the Irish monk-priest from Scottish Iona, to come and share the teachings of Isu Mac De (Jesus Son of God) with the people of his kingdom.   As mentioned in "Of Kings and…

Of Kings and Priests: Part Two

Financial abuses have run rampant in the Church for the past three to four decades.  Scandals, a lack of accountability, and misappropriation of church funds have left a wound in the hearts of many would-be givers, namely those in whom the Lord has given the gift of generosity.  Monies that should have gone to the extension of God's kingdom have been diverted to other secular causes and charitable institutions as a backlash for the…

Of Kings and Priests

In 604 a King was born in Deira, Northumbria.  A few years earlier, in Ireland, a boy was born who would later become the “apostle to the English”.  It was a time of great division both in the kingdoms of the British Isles and within the Church.  For such a time as this, did God send Oswald and Aidan.  A King.  A Priest.
